Dairy Farm Assistant – Full Time Permanent

Start Date: 1 May 2026

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Dairy Farm Assistant to join our team on a large-scale dairy operation located approximately 20 minutes outside Ashburton.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with some dairy farming experience who is looking to further develop their skills in a supportive team environment.

About the farm
Our farm is 420 hectares, milking approximately 1,450 cows through an 80-bail rotary shed equipped with automatic cup removers, auto teat sprayers, in-shed feeding, Protrack, and lameness detection technology. We utilise cow collars for heat detection and animal health monitoring and operate a 3-in-2 milking system for most of the year.

We calve twice annually, with approximately 950 calves in spring and 450 in autumn.

The role
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Milking and shed operations
• Animal health monitoring and recording
• Calving support
• Weed control and pasture management
• Tractor driving and general farm machinery operation
• Fencing and general farm maintenance
• Cleaning and wash-down duties

Hours and roster
• Minimum 30 hours per week (average 45 hours per week)
• Roster: 6 days on, 2 days off

Remuneration
• $60,000 – $70,000 per annum, depending on experience

Requirements
• Commercial dairy farming experience prefered but can train the right applicant 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good attitude and reliability are essential
• Must be physically fit and able to work in a hands-on environment
• Applicants must currently be in New Zealand
