HONG KE LONG ASIAN SUPERMARKET, located in Napier, is seeking a motivated and reliable Retail Buyer to join our team. We are looking for someone who understands retail purchasing, stock planning, and supplier coordination, and who can help ensure our store maintains a strong range of products to meet customer demand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and purchase stock in line with customer demand and sales trends
- Source products from suppliers and negotiate prices, delivery terms, and supply arrangements
- Monitor stock levels and arrange timely replenishment
- Review product performance and adjust purchasing decisions accordingly
- Maintain appropriate product variety, quality, and pricing competitiveness
- Liaise with wholesalers, distributors, and other suppliers regarding product availability and promotions
- Assist with inventory control and reduce overstocking or stock shortages
- Keep purchasing records and prepare reports as required
- Work closely with store management to support business growth and seasonal purchasing needs
Skills and Experience Required:
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience, or
- A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification or above
- Good understanding of retail operations and stock purchasing
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage purchasing responsibilities effectively
- Knowledge of Asian grocery products will be an advantage
Hours and Pay:
- Guaranteed hours: at least 30 hours per week
- Pay rate: competitive and negotiable depending on skills and experience
