Sy Bakehouse & cafe is currently seeking a motivated Retail Bakery Manager to lead and oversee our daily operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day store activities, supervising and supporting staff, maintaining high standards of product quality and customer service, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience.

Sy Bakehouse & cafe, established in August 2021, is a welcoming bakery café and lunch bar located in Katikati, Bay of Plenty. Renowned for our fresh, high-quality baked goods, hearty lunch options, and warm customer service, we are passionate about creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Our food is crafted with care and served with pride to both locals and visitors in the community.


We are currently seeking a motivated Retail Bakery Manager to lead and oversee our daily operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day store activities, supervising and supporting staff, maintaining high standards of product quality and customer service, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience.

This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong management background and a solid understanding of retail operations, customer service excellence, and team leadership, particularly within a fast-paced and culturally diverse work environment.

 What we offer:

A Full-time permanent role - 30 minimum guaranteed work hour per week

The rate of pay or salary: $30.00 - $35.00 /hr. before tax,depending on skills and experience.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the bakery, including production, sales, and inventory management.
  • Recruit, supervise, train, and motivate bakery staff to ensure high performance, efficiency, and teamwork.
  • Maintain consistent product quality and ensure all food meets required safety and quality standards.
  • Manage financial operations, including budgeting, cost control, cash flow  monitoring, and reporting.
  • Plan and implement marketing and promotional initiatives to drive sales and enhance customer engagement.
  •  Ensure the bakery is maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming condition for both customers and staff.
  • Ensure full compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Handle customer enquiries, feedback, and complaints in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate staff rosters in line with operational and business requirements.
  •  Manage cash handling procedures, POS systems, and daily financial reconciliation.

 Requirements and skills:

  • A Level 6 Diploma or higher qualification in Hospitality, Business, Management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in the retail industry and client communication is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong budgeting and financial planning skills or experience is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational abilities.
  • Multilingual skills are an asset — proficiency in Cambodian is particularly desirable, as it supports effective communication with kitchen staff, but it is not mandatory.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  •  High attention to detail, with a strong commitment to maintaining food quality and hygiene standards.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  •  Demonstrated leadership and staff management capabilities.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
