About the role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Electronic Engineering Technician to join our team in Hamilton. This is a hands-on role focused primarily on the installation, testing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of automatic gate systems and related electronic control equipment, with work also supporting associated product and site service requirements.

The successful applicant will work across workshop and client sites to ensure electronic systems are installed safely, operate correctly, and are maintained to a high standard.

Key duties and responsibilities
The role includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

  • Install, test, commission, maintain and repair electronic equipment and systems used in automatic gates and related access solutions.
  • Diagnose faults in motors, controllers, circuit boards, wiring, sensors, receivers, intercoms, remote-control systems and other electronic components.
  • Inspect, service and replace defective parts and components such as wiring, switches, relays, transformers, fuses, connectors, control modules and safety devices.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, manuals and technical specifications to identify and resolve faults accurately.
  • Carry out routine servicing, calibration and performance checks to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with the installation and servicing of access-related electrical and electronic systems connected to gates, fencing and other company products where required.
  • Conduct on-site troubleshooting, testing and commissioning at customer premises.
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair notes and parts usage records.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements, manufacturer guidelines and company procedures.
  • Communicate with customers and team members regarding technical issues, repair status and maintenance recommendations.
  • Perform other related technician duties reasonably required by the employer.

Minimum requirements
Applicants must have one of the following:

  • a relevant qualification at Bachelor's Degree or higher in electronics, electrical engineering, electrotechnology, mechatronics or a closely related field; or
  • at least 3 years of relevant work experience in electronic equipment installation, maintenance and repair.
  • the ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals;
  • good fault-finding and problem-solving skills;
  • good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • a commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship.
