Kerala Legacy is an indian food business in Nelson, New Zealand, that serves authentic Kerala (South Indian) cuisine.It specializes in traditional dishes like Kerala porotta, various dosa varieties, idli, puri, pongal, and Samovar tea, bringing the real flavours of Kerala to the local community and markets (including a spot at 211 Hardy Street).It's run by people from Kerala who are passionate about sharing their home-style food in Nelson.

We are looking for two skilled cooks for a South Indian  takeaways based in Nelson-Tasman. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a minimum of 30 hours per week, with opportunities for additional overtime. The hourly wage ranges from $26 to $29, depending on experience and skills.

  1. Prepare and cook a variety of authentic South Indian dishes, including Dosa, Idli, Vada, Sambar, chutneys, Curries, Kerala Sadhya,kerala Porotta and a variety of Arabic&  biriyani dishes.
  2. Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before and after cooking.
  3. Monitor and control temperatures of stoves, ovens, grills, and other kitchen equipment.
  4. Ensure food is served in correct portions with proper presentation.
  5. Store ingredients and prepared food safely following hygiene standards.
  6. Assist other kitchen staff when required.
  7. Maintain a clean, organised, and compliant kitchen environment.
  8. Support with receiving, storing, and organising food deliveries.
  9. Assisting with menu planning and estimating food requirements.
  10. Report and document any observed or known safety hazards, conditions, or unsafe practices and procedures.

Requirements of the position offered 

  1. A relevant Level 2 or higher qualification in the cooking field, or at least two years of relevant work experience, is required
  2. Be available to work on weekends and public holidays as per the roster
  3. Able to work till late evenings/Early mornings as per the shift roster.
