Diesel Mechanic – Full-Time
Location: Auckland
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Minimum 35-40 hours per week
Pay rate: $35-$45 per hour

About Us:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. The role involves ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards through effective mechanical servicing and fault diagnosis.

Key  Responsibilities:

  • Detect and diagnose faults in diesel engines and associated mechanical components using diagnostic tools and equipment.

  • Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components for inspection and repair.

  • Examine parts for wear, damage, or faults and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.

  • Repair or replace worn and defective components, including engines, fuel systems, braking systems, and transmission parts.

  • Reassemble engines and mechanical components after repair, ensuring all parts are correctly fitted and functional.

  • Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, engine tuning, and filter replacements to ensure efficient vehicle operation.

  • Conduct post-repair testing and adjustments to ensure vehicles operate safely and effectively.

  • Use computerised diagnostic equipment and software to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electronic faults.

  • Ensure all servicing and repairs comply with environmental and pollution control regulations.

  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation of repairs and maintenance work performed.

  • May inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or provide detailed reports outlining required repairs to meet compliance standards.

  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, repair procedures, and industry best practices.

  • Be able to drive heavy trucks, if required

Skills & Experience Required

  • Relevant qualification in Automotive Mechanical Technology (NZQF Level 4 or equivalent), or at least 2 years of relevant work experience. 

  • Previous experience working with diesel engines, heavy vehicles, or machinery preferred 

  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills. 

  • Experience using electronic diagnostic tools. 

  • Good understanding of health and safety practices.

  • You must have a current and valid NZ Driver's License 

  • A forklift licence would be highly desirable

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to bend, kneel, and reach.

  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in enclosed spaces.
