Diesel Mechanic – Full-Time
Location: Auckland
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Minimum 35-40 hours per week
Pay rate: $35-$45 per hour
About Us:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. The role involves ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards through effective mechanical servicing and fault diagnosis.
Key Responsibilities:

Detect and diagnose faults in diesel engines and associated mechanical components using diagnostic tools and equipment.

Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components for inspection and repair.

Examine parts for wear, damage, or faults and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.

Repair or replace worn and defective components, including engines, fuel systems, braking systems, and transmission parts.

Reassemble engines and mechanical components after repair, ensuring all parts are correctly fitted and functional.

Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, engine tuning, and filter replacements to ensure efficient vehicle operation.

Conduct post-repair testing and adjustments to ensure vehicles operate safely and effectively.

Use computerised diagnostic equipment and software to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electronic faults.

Ensure all servicing and repairs comply with environmental and pollution control regulations.

Maintain accurate service records and documentation of repairs and maintenance work performed.

May inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or provide detailed reports outlining required repairs to meet compliance standards.

Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.

Maintain a strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, repair procedures, and industry best practices.

Be able to drive heavy trucks, if required
Skills & Experience Required
-
Relevant qualification in Automotive Mechanical Technology (NZQF Level 4 or equivalent), or at least 2 years of relevant work experience.

Previous experience working with diesel engines, heavy vehicles, or machinery preferred

Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

Experience using electronic diagnostic tools.

Good understanding of health and safety practices.

You must have a current and valid NZ Driver's License

A forklift licence would be highly desirable
Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to bend, kneel, and reach.

Ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in enclosed spaces.
