Experienced and reliable Location Director needed for niche television and film production company. Permanent role is based in Auckland, with travel across New Zealand for location scouting and production needs. 

This is a rare opportunity to join an established production team working on a range of local and international productions.

Full-time 120 hours/month. Must be able to work weekends and public holidays, as required to meet production requirements at times. 

 

We are looking for a star Location Director to join our small and hardworking team.

Are you experienced in location scouting, planning for production needs, evaluating and assessing potential locations and reporting on risks and feasibility, and scheduling the staging requirements for outdoor on location film and television productions?

Suitable candidates will be outstanding schedulers, experienced in logistics and site planning, estimates and quoting, great with people, and able to assess risks and manage health and safety and regulatory compliance requirements for on location productions, keeping talent and production teams safe at all times. 

Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety regulations and local regulatory and environmental requirements is an advantage, or at least have experienced in this area and be willing to update your knowledge and stay up-to-date moving forward. 

You will need to ready to contribute to planning and design of creative aspects of productions, be a strong communicator and able to work collaboratively with film/video producers and specialist set designers. 

It would be an advatange if you have experience in financial administration, particularly in mananging expenses for location shoots within budget. Ideal candidates will have experience managing their production unit and be competent with standard financial reporting and accounting practices.   

Requirements for the role
Must have experience in location scouting, directing and production scheduling, with proven record of success of at least 5+ years as a Location Director or as a Film and Television Director. 
 
Must have experience with meeting health and safety and regulatory compliance requirements for productions in outdoor and sometimes challenging locations. 
 
Must have a full drivers license and have a ‘P’ endorsement, or be able to obain onewithin 3 months of starting the role.
 
Must be sufficiently competent in English to meet the communication, client engagement and regulatory requirements of the role. 
 
Must meet good character, credit and background check as financial responsibility part of this role. 

Pre-employment and on-site drug testing may be required. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing. 
 
Preferred, but not required
  • Ideal candidates will have at least 8+ years experience as a Film and Television Director or as a Location Director. 
  • Ideally will have up-to-date knowledge of New Zealand health and safety requirement, but can meet requirenents if willing to undertake on-the-job training to upskill to keep knowledge current. 
  • Preferrably have working level of ability in Japanese, with competence in spoken and written Japanese ideal. 
  • Qualifications in film and television production preferred, but not required.
