Our client is a well-established civil construction business with a strong national footprint and a reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects across New Zealand. With a long-standing presence in the Three Waters, energy, and heavy civil sectors, the business continues to grow under a wider infrastructure group, offering stability, scale, and ongoing project diversity.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator / QS to step into a hands-on role where you will be involved across tendering, pricing, and project delivery support within a high-performing commercial team.

The Role

You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates across a range of civil infrastructure projects, while supporting project delivery teams with commercial insight and cost control throughout the lifecycle of works.

Projects include:

  • Water infrastructure (Three Waters)

  • Electrical substations and energy infrastructure

  • Solar farm developments

  • Complex earthworks, drainage, and concrete structures (in-situ and precast)

You will work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure robust pricing and strong commercial outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions

  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, and scope documents

  • Building strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for accurate pricing

  • Supporting contract handovers and project setup

  • Providing commercial input during project delivery phases

  • Assisting with mentoring junior team members where required

  • Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and commercial integrity across all estimates

About You

You will bring:

  • A qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction, or Estimating (or equivalent experience)

  • At least 3–5+ years’ experience in civil construction estimating or QS roles in NZ

  • Strong numerical capability and commercial awareness

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure

  • Good communication skills and a collaborative working style

  • Strong MS Office capability (especially Excel)

  • Eligibility to work permanently in New Zealand
