Mechanical Fitter

Modern Transport Engineers (MTE) is one of New Zealand’s leading heavy transport and trailer manufacturers. We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our Finishing Bay team as part of our final build and delivery process.

About the Role:

Working in the finishing bay, you will be responsible for the final mechanical fit-out of trailers prior to delivery. This role suits a hands-on tradesperson who takes pride in quality workmanship and attention to detail. Some hydraulic experience would be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

• Final mechanical assembly and fit-out of trailers
• Fitting running gear, suspension, braking components, and ancillary equipment
• Fault finding and rectification prior to final inspection
• Working closely with finishing, electrical, and paint teams to meet delivery deadlines
• Ensuring all work meets MTE quality and safety standards

What We’re Looking For:

• Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter or relevant industry experience
• Experience in heavy transport, trailers, or similar machinery preferred
• Some hydraulic systems experience is ideal (or willingness to learn)
• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Commitment to health and safety in the workshop

• Working hours: 7:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Thursday, 7:30am to 4pm Friday, minimum 46 hours per week.
