An established and well-regarded transport and logistics operation is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead a high performing function based in Timaru. This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for operational performance, people leadership, customer relationships, safety, and commercial outcomes.

This role will suit a hands-on leader from the transport sector who understands the realities of fleet operations, compliance, and driver engagement, and who has a proven ability to build strong, professional relationships both internally and externally.

The Role
Reporting into the General Manager, you will have responsibility for the end-to-end performance of the operation. Key responsibilities include:  
  • Leading and motivating a team of drivers, dispatch and operational staff
  • Ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient daily transport operations
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders
  • Managing operational performance against KPIs, cost models, and budgets
  • Driving a strong safety-first and values-led culture
  • Overseeing fleet utilisation, maintenance, and presentation
  • Managing compliance requirements, audits, and risk management systems
  • Supporting business growth through customer retention and service excellence
This role requires visibility on the floor, confident decision-making, and the ability to balance commercial outcomes with people leadership.

  • A stable track record in previous roles, demonstrating commitment and consistency
  • Strong experience leading drivers and operational teams
  • Confidence dealing with external customers
