GR Trading (2022) Limited operates a busy and well-established liquor store in Timaru. We are committed to delivering excellent customer service while ensuring responsible alcohol sales in compliance with New Zealand licensing laws.
We are seeking an experienced Retail Manager to organise, control, and oversee the operations and commercial performance of our liquor retail store. This role has overall responsibility and autonomy for managing the store’s operations, financial performance, staffing, and product offering to ensure profitability and efficient business performance. It is a senior management position responsible for the overall performance and direction of the business.
Pay: $30–$35 per hour
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week
Location: Timaru, Canterbury
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan, organise, and control all aspects of the store’s operations to ensure efficient and
profitable performance.
2. Develop and implement store policies, procedures, and service standards.
3. Determine product mix, stock levels, and pricing strategies based on sales performance and customer demand.
4. Manage supplier relationships and oversee purchasing decisions.
5. Prepare and manage budgets, including labour and operating costs.
6. Analyse and manage sales performance, profit margins, and financial outcomes to ensure the store meets profitability targets.
7. Develop and implement promotional strategies and sales initiatives to drive revenue.
8. Set sales targets and monitor store performance against business objectives.
9. Lead recruitment, training, and performance management of staff.
10. Oversee workforce planning and staffing levels aligned with operational and budget
requirements.
11. Ensure compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and all regulatory
requirements.
12. Oversee health and safety systems and responsible alcohol sale practices.
13. Maintain and oversee systems for stock control and financial reporting.
14. Identify and implement improvements to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
Minimum Requirements
1. At least 3 years of relevant retail management experience, or a relevant NZQF Level 5
qualification (or higher).
2. Proven experience in managing liquor retail operations, including staff, stock, and financial performance.
3. Strong leadership, organisational, and decision-making skills.
4. Sound understanding of sales, inventory management, and budgeting.
5. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
