Top Flyte Stairs is seeking a skilled Timber / Joinery Machinist to manufacture precision timber components for custom staircases with our Team in Tauranga.
The role involves operating woodworking machinery, preparing materials, and producing high-quality joinery components to specification.
This is a hands-on role within our workshop, focused on machining and producing precision timber components to specification. The position suits someone with solid experience in timber machining or joinery who can work accurately and efficiently in a production environment.
Key tasks and responsibilities
· Set up, operate and maintain woodworking machinery including circular saws, thicknessers, planers, drills, spindle moulders and sanding equipment
· Study drawings, job sheets and cutting lists to determine specifications, materials and required machining processes
· Determine tooling, machine setup requirements and sequence of operations for each job
· Machine, shape and cut timber components for staircases, balustrades and handrails to detailed specifications and measurements
· Prepare and position timber stock for accurate cutting, planing, shaping and sanding
· Monitor machine operation to ensure accuracy, consistency and efficiency
· Assemble and fit timber components where required, ensuring correct alignment and fastening
· Prepare surfaces and apply finishes such as stains, lacquers or paints, including sanding, polishing and final surface treatment
· Select appropriate materials and ensure all work meets required quality standards
· Perform routine maintenance and ensure safe operation of equipment
· Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment
· Work collaboratively to meet production deadlines and delivery timeframes
· Follow all health and safety procedures at all times
Minimum requirements
You must have:
· At least 2 years’ relevant experience in timber machining, carpentry, joinery or a related trade
You must also have:
· Proven experience using woodworking machinery and power tools
· Ability to accurately measure, cut and work to specifications
· Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail
· Physically capable of handling timber and workshop tasks
· Reliable, organised and able to work within a team
Desirable
· Experience in stair, balustrade or handrail manufacturing
· Carpentry, joinery or related trade qualificaiton
What we offer
· Permanent, full-time employment
· Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week (Monday to Friday, typically 7:00am to 3:30pm, with additional hours as required)
· Competitive hourly rate of $27.00 to $30.00 depending on experience
