Position: Carpenter
Key Responsibilities
- Project Preparation: Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and sketches to determine project requirements, dimensions, and necessary materials.
- Material Management: Take precise measurements and calculate the amount of lumber or other materials (such as fiberglass or plastic) needed.
- Construction & Fabrication: Cut, shape, and smooth materials using hand and power tools. Build frameworks for walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs.
- Installation: Fit structures like windows, doors, staircases, cabinets, and moulding. Ensure all installations are level, square, and plumb.
- Repair & Maintenance: Inspect buildings and fixtures to diagnose issues and perform necessary repair or replacement of damaged components.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to local building codes and strict health and safety regulations to ensure structural integrity and workplace safety. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10]
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Qualification: Typically requires a Level 4 diploma or successful completion of a 2-year carpentry experience.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of carpentry tools including power saws, drills, sanders, levels, and hammers.
- Mathematical Ability: Strong skills in basic maths, geometry, and algebra for precise measurements and material estimations.
- Physical Capability: Stamina to stand for long periods and the strength to lift heavy materials, sometimes up to 45kg (100 lbs).
Attention to Detail: Keen eye for precision in cuts and joinery to ensure high-quality finishes.
