J Ghuman Holdings Limited operates a 270-hectare dairy farm in Southland, milking approximately 825 cows. We run efficient farm systems supported by modern equipment and a dedicated team. We are seeking a motivated Herd Manager to oversee herd health, milking operations, pasture management, and daily farm activities while maintaining high animal welfare and production standards.Applicants with at least two years of commercial dairy farming experience OR with a relavant Level 4 tertiary qualification in Agriculture or Allied Sector and a commitment to safe, sustainable farming are encouraged to apply.

Job Description

J Ghuman Holdings Limited is seeking motivated individuals for the position of Herd Manager on our large-scale dairy operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily milking operations and maintain high shed hygiene standards
  • Monitor and manage animal health, including identifying and treating health issues
  • Record and administer animal treatments accurately
  • Manage feeding systems and ensure nutritional needs are met
  • Monitor and maintain milk quality and resolve any issues
  • Observe and record reproductive activity, support mating and calving
  • Operate tractors, implement, and farm equipment safely and efficiently
  • Comply with environmental standards and farm sustainability goals
  • Follow and promote on-farm Health & Safety policies
  • Support a positive team environment and work collaboratively

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to “get stuck in”
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Reliable and detail-oriented, with leadership ability in peak seasons (calving, mating)
  • Full Driver’s Licence
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Dairy Farming or related field
  • Relevant work experience of at least two years may substitute above stated qualification requirements
  • Sound knowledge of animal health, milking routines, pasture management, and farm systems
