The successful candidate will carry out a wide range of general maintenance, repair, and installation tasks across residential and/or commercial properties. This is a full-time permanent role offering stable employment with a competitive wage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Handyman will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

       Performing general building maintenance and minor repairs to structures, fixtures, and fittings

       Repairing and maintaining plumbing fixtures including taps, toilets, and drainage systems (minor, non-licensed work)

       Carrying out painting, plastering, patching, and finishing work on walls, ceilings, and exterior surfaces

       Installing and repairing doors, windows, locks, hinges, and associated hardware

       Assembling and installing furniture, shelving, cabinetry, and flat-pack items

       Performing basic electrical tasks such as replacing light fittings, switches, and power points (within legal scope)

       Carrying out tiling, grouting, and other floor or wall surface repairs

       Maintaining, repairing, and replacing roofing materials, guttering, fascia, and downpipes

       Conducting regular property inspections and identifying maintenance requirements

       Responding to maintenance requests in a timely manner and prioritising urgent repairs

       Using and maintaining hand tools, power tools, and other trade equipment safely

       Following all relevant health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and company policies

       Completing job records, maintenance logs, and reporting to supervisors

       Liaising with tenants, clients, or building managers in a professional and courteous manner

       Sourcing materials and supplies as required for maintenance tasks

 

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Essential Requirements:

       2 years of experience working as a Handyman, or Maintenance Worker, or in a related trade role

       Sound practical knowledge and skills across multiple maintenance and repair disciplines

       Proficiency in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and relevant equipment

       Knowledge of relevant New Zealand building codes, standards, and health & safety regulations

       Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to complete tasks efficiently

       Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

       Good communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with clients and team members

       Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including working at heights

Desirable Requirements:

       Experience using property management or job scheduling software

       Knowledge of sustainable maintenance practices
