Due to continued business growth, we are seeking experienced welders to join our team.

Applicants must be based in Auckland. The hourly rate ranges from $28 to $38, depending on experience, for 30–40 hours per week. Remuneration will be reviewed periodically.

We are a builder specialising in renovation, maintenance, and small-scale projects including granny flats and container-based builds. The successful applicant will carry out on-site welding and metal fabrication work across these projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reading Drawings and Specifications: Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans and specifications to determine welding and fabrication requirements for each renovation, maintenance or small build project.
  • Material Preparation: Select and prepare suitable metal materials (mild steel sections, RHS/SHS, plate, rebar, light-gauge steel) for on-site fabrication, including measuring, marking out and cutting using hand tools, angle grinders and portable metal cutting equipment.
  • Fabrication and Fit-up: Shape and bend steel sections to fit structural, framing and renovation requirements; align and tack-weld parts in position using squares, clamps and measuring tools to ensure accurate fit-up before final welding.
  • Welding: Join steel components using MIG and arc (stick) welding, commonly used in residential building, renovation and light structural work.
  • On-site Structural and Small Build Work: Carry out on-site welding for structural steel, balustrades, handrails, stairs, gates, steel framing for granny flats, and modifications to container-based small buildings (e.g. cutting openings for doors/windows and reinforcing frames).
  • Repairs and Maintenance: Perform welding repairs and maintenance on existing metalwork during renovation and maintenance jobs.
  • Quality Check and Finishing: Inspect welds visually for size, alignment and quality, and grind back welds where a clean finish is required.
  • Health and Safety: Follow New Zealand health and safety requirements on site, including hot work procedures, PPE, and safe use of welding and cutting equipment.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 year relevant welding experience in construction, structural or fabrication work; or
  • A Level 4 qualification in Welding / Fabrication (or a related field).
