The Assistant Retail Manager (Seafood Shop) supports the Director in managing the daily operations of the company’s seafood retail shop. This role ensures efficient store performance, maintains high standards of customer service, and ensures compliance with food safety and health regulations. The position combines operational support, sales, inventory control, and staff supervision.
A. Key Responsibilities
1. Retail Operations & Sales

Assist in determining product mix, stock levels, and service standards appropriate for a seafood retail environment

Sell seafood products directly to customers and provide advice on product selection, preparation, and storage

Ensure product displays are attractive, well-stocked, and comply with food hygiene standards
2. Purchasing & Inventory Management

Support the development and implementation of purchasing policies to maintain a consistent supply of seafood products

Monitor stock levels, minimise wastage, and ensure product freshness and quality
-
Coordinate with the seafood processing team to align supply with retail demand
3. Marketing & Pricing
-
Assist in planning and implementing marketing and promotional activities to increase sales
-
Support pricing decisions based on cost, market conditions, and business strategy

Help execute in-store and online promotions
4. Financial & Administrative Duties

Maintain records of stock levels and financial transactions accurately

Assist with budgeting and monitoring store performance
-
Ensure proper handling of cash, EFTPOS, and daily sales reporting
5. Staff Supervision

Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising retail staff

Allocate tasks and monitor staff performance to ensure smooth store operations
-
Promote a positive and productive team environment
6. Compliance & Health and Safety

Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations

Monitor proper handling, storage, and display of seafood products
-
Support implementation of company policies and legal requirements
7. Skills and Requirements

Previous experience in retail, preferably in food or seafood industry

Strong customer service and sales skills

Good organisational and inventory management abilities

Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends
8. Requirements for the job:

Must be a New Zealand citizen or resident.

Be able to speak Campodian
-
At least 2 years of relevant work experience OR a Diploma’s qualification or above
-
High standard of food safety and hygiene practices

Ability to manage operations, storage, and preparation
-
Be physically fit
-
Full-time availability, always available on weekends and public holidays.

Able to do both morning and evening shifts across a 7-day roster. Able to follow a lexible weekly timetable

Reliable and having a positive attitude

Have good time management skills, be well organized, and capable of multitasking

No criminal record.
