Experienced Bricklayer needed for a Otago-based team working across residential, commercial, and architectural projects. Carry out precise masonry construction, expert mortar application, and structural blockwork; interpret detailed architectural blueprints; and deliver high-quality durability and finish on custom builds within a supportive, safety-conscious, and skilled environment.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Bricklayer to join our team in Otago. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-end residential, commercial and architectural projects, focusing on precision masonry and structural veneer work. ​​​​​You will be a key part of our skilled team, contributing to the delivery of premium, custom-designed builds and expertly finished exterior facades.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Studying plans and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedures

  • Erecting and dismantling restricted height scaffolding

  • Sealing foundations with damp-resistant materials and spreading layers of mortar to serve as base and binder for blocks using trowels

  • Cuts and shapes hard and soft stone blocks and masonry slabs to construct and renovate stone structures and monumental masonry.

  • Laying bricks in rows, designs and shapes, and spreading mortar between joints

  • Embedding blocks in mortar and removing excess mortar

  • Checking vertical and horizontal alignment

  • Cutting, shaping and polishing stones and bricks using machines and hand tools, and shaping bricks to fit irregular spaces

  • Repairing and maintaining bricks, cement blocks and related structures

  • Designing and cutting monumental masonry and lettering

  • Constructing walls using stone slabs and large masonry slab blocks

What We’re Looking For

  • 3 years of proven experience in bricklaying, blocklaying, or high-end architectural masonry.

  • Proficiency with specialized trade tools (trowels, brick saws, levels, and mixing equipment).

  • Proven track record of high-quality craftsmanship, including clean mortar lines and structurally sound veneer work.

  • Experience reading and interpreting detailed architectural blueprints, site plans, and elevations.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to address site-specific challenges and variations in terrain or materials.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering premium, aesthetically superior finishes.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a site crew and independently on residential or commercial builds.

  • A valid driver’s license and your own reliable transportation.
