Job Duties:
- Operate excavators and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Excavate trenches, foundations, and other earthwork according to specifications.
- Operate machines with auger drill and rock breaking attachments.
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
- Inspect equipment before and after use; perform basic maintenance and report issues.
- Work closely with site supervisors and other team members to ensure project goals are met.
- Follow all safety regulations and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Load and unload materials using equipment as needed.
- Assist with site preparation, backfilling, grading, and compaction tasks.
Job pre-requisites:
- A qualification equivalent to NZQF Level 4 or above in a relevant field.
- Alternatively, at least three years of relevant work experience may substitute for the qualification.
- Valid heavy equipment operator certification or licence is preferred.
- Strong understanding of excavation techniques, soil types, and safety practices.
- Ability to read blueprints, site layouts, and grade stakes.
- Physical stamina and ability to work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
