Hourly rate: $30 - $35

Job Duties:

  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Excavate trenches, foundations, and other earthwork according to specifications.
  • Operate machines with auger drill and rock breaking attachments.
  • Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use; perform basic maintenance and report issues.
  • Work closely with site supervisors and other team members to ensure project goals are met.
  • Follow all safety regulations and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Load and unload materials using equipment as needed.
  • Assist with site preparation, backfilling, grading, and compaction tasks.

 

Job pre-requisites:

  • A qualification equivalent to NZQF Level 4 or above in a relevant field.
  • Alternatively, at least three years of relevant work experience may substitute for the qualification.
  • Valid heavy equipment operator certification or licence is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of excavation techniques, soil types, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read blueprints, site layouts, and grade stakes.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
