Freeflow Drain Specialist Limited is seeking one or two motivated, reliable and highly organised Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Diesel Technician & Auto Electrician with strong heavy vehicle mechanical and auto electrical experience to inspect, diagnose, repair, maintain and support the safe operation of our fleet of trucks.

About the role – Key tasks and responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and servicing a range of heavy vehicles and/or light commercial vehicles, including associated electrical repairs, rewiring and fault finding. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work safely and efficiently to strict timelines, and a strong focus on delivering work to Freeflow Drain Specialist Limited’s quality and time standards.
In this role, you will:

Inspect, detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines, vehicle systems and parts.

Carry out auto electrical diagnosis, repairs, rewiring and fault finding, including work relating to drivability, ABS brakes, heating and air conditioning, exhaust systems, steering, suspension and related heavy vehicle systems.

Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and inspect and check parts.

Repair and replace worn and defective parts and reassemble mechanical components, referring to service manuals as required.

Perform scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to support smoother vehicle running and compliance with pollution regulations.

Reassemble engines and parts after repairs have been completed.

Test and adjust mechanical parts after repair to ensure proper performance.

Diagnose and test parts with the assistance of computer-based diagnostic equipment.

Inspect vehicles and, where applicable, issue roadworthiness certificates or identify and record the work required to achieve roadworthiness.

Respond to vehicle breakdown service calls as required.

Road test vehicles where required to confirm repairs have been completed properly.

Review service and repair write-ups, use manuals and diagrams as necessary, and determine the type of diagnosis and repair work required.

Use computer systems to check parts availability, diagnostic information and repair orders.

Use the correct tools for each job and safely install parts, equipment, wiring or programs to meet required specifications.

Determine when and what type of work is required for routine maintenance and repairs.

Notify the Operations Manager of additional work required, expected delays, parts requirements, or repair options where assistance or approval is needed.

Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning and basic repairs on workshop tools and equipment, and keep the workshop and fleet clean and organised.

Follow company safety, environmental and hazardous waste procedures.

Keep maintenance, repair, warranty, time ticket and service records accurate, complete, legible and up to date in a timely manner.
Terms and Conditions
Employment Type: Full-time, permanent
Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week
Pay Rate: $35.00 – $39.99 per hour, depending on skills and experience
Work Location: East Tamaki, Auckland
Start Date: Immediate or by agreement
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:

Either a relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification in automotive engineering, heavy diesel mechanics or a closely related field;

Or at least three years of relevant heavy diesel mechanic experience may substitute for a formal qualification.

Ability to work to strict timelines while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to keep maintenance and repair records accurate and up to date.

A reliable, organised and safety-conscious approach to work.

A heavy vehicle driver licence will be highly regarded.
