Job Title: Electronic Engineer (Solar Farm / Renewable Energy)

Job Description:

The Electronic Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and optimization of electronic and electrical systems within large-scale solar (photovoltaic) farm projects. This role focuses on ensuring efficient energy generation, system reliability, and compliance with New Zealand regulatory and safety standards.

The engineer will analyze system requirements, design and integrate power electronics and control systems, and support the full lifecycle of solar energy projects, from planning and installation to commissioning and ongoing performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electronic and electrical systems for solar PV farms, including inverters, monitoring systems, and control units
  • Perform system modelling, simulation, and performance analysis to optimize energy output
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of solar power systems
  • Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to power electronics and grid integration
  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand electrical standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements
  • Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and software engineers on project delivery
  • Evaluate and select components such as inverters, transformers, and protection systems
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and specifications
  • Support maintenance strategies and long-term asset management of solar farm infrastructure

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics, photovoltaic systems, and grid-connected systems
  • Experience with system design tools and simulation software
  • Understanding of inverters, and energy monitoring platforms
  • Familiarity with New Zealand standards and renewable energy regulations (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Experience (preferred):

  • Experience in solar energy, renewable energy, or power systems engineering
  • Involvement in large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
  • Experience with commissioning and performance optimization of PV systems
