Greenfingers Horticultural Services Limited is on the lookout for 4 practical, hands-on Infrastructure Maintenance Technicians.

The Infrastructure Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and adjustment of trellis systems, canopy support structures, and associated infrastructure within a commercial horticulture operation.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Orchard Infrastructure Inspection & Maintenance

  • Inspect trellis systems, including posts, wires, anchors, and netting, to assess structural integrity and operational performance.
  • Identify and diagnose structural weaknesses such as wire sagging, post movement, anchor failure, and canopy load stress impacts.
  • Carry out corrective maintenance to restore and maintain structural integrity of support systems.

Trellis System Repair & Structural Adjustment

  • Replace or repair damaged or deteriorated posts, wires, and support components within blocks.
  • Reinforce high-load structural points such as trellis end assemblies to ensure stability under crop weight and environmental conditions.
  • Install or adjust canopy support wires to improve structural balance and long-term system performance.

Canopy Support System Maintenance

  • Maintain canopy training systems to ensure correct vine/plant positioning and optimal light distribution.
  • Assist in adjusting canopy structure through physical manipulation of support systems to meet production requirements.
  • Support performance by ensuring canopy systems are structurally aligned with crop load and growth patterns.

Fault Diagnosis & Preventative Maintenance

  • Monitor infrastructure performance and identify early signs of system failure or wear.
  • Apply practical fault-finding techniques to determine causes of structural or mechanical issues within trellis systems.
  • Undertake preventative maintenance to reduce risk of system failure and improve productivity outcomes.

Tools, Equipment & Technical Operations

  • Safely operate maintenance tools and equipment including tensioning devices, ladders, hand tools, light mechanical tools, and structural repair equipment.
  • Use appropriate methods to measure, adjust, and secure structural components under load conditions.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe working order.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Carry out all maintenance activities in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Identify and report hazards relating to structural instability, equipment failure, or environmental risks.
  • Ensure safe working practices when working at height or under load-bearing structures.

Reporting & Operational Support

  • Report structural issues, recurring faults, and maintenance requirements to supervisory staff.
  • Record maintenance and repair activities where required for operational tracking.
  • Provide feedback on infrastructure performance to support ongoing operational improvements.

What we're looking for

  • Practical experience in maintenance, repair, or infrastructure support roles in agricultural, horticultural, or similar operational environments.
  • Ability to diagnose structural or mechanical faults in field-based systems.
  • Experience using hand tools, tensioning systems, and light mechanical or structural repair equipment.
  • Understanding of load-bearing structures, basic engineering principles, or agricultural support systems.
  • Ability to work independently and apply practical judgement in field conditions.
  • Strong awareness of safety requirements in elevated or structural maintenance environments.

This role is based in a commercial environment and involves outdoor work across varying weather conditions. The position requires working at height, working with load-bearing structures, and performing maintenance on live production systems that directly support crop development and productivity.

3 years of practical experience to be able to fulfil the requirements of the job is required.
