Role Summary:
The Crop Production Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of crop production activities across the market garden.
This role oversees the full crop cycle from soil preparation through to harvest and dispatch, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and seasonal requirements are achieved.
The position requires the ability to make operational decisions, manage crop programmes, and coordinate day-to-day activities to maintain efficient and productive farming operations.
- Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.
Applicants must have the following as per employer’s requirement:
- Minimum 3 years’ practical experience in vegetable production, horticulture, or agriculture
- Proven ability to plan and coordinate farming activities across a production cycle
- Experience monitoring crop performance and making day-to-day operational decisions
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for production outcomes
- Sound understanding of irrigation, soil management, and general crop husbandry practices
- Ability to operate farm machinery
Key Responsibilites:
- Plan and implement crop production programmes, including planting schedules, crop rotations, and seasonal growing strategies
- Coordinate daily farming operations to ensure activities are completed efficiently and in line with production timelines
- Monitor crop growth and growing conditions, making decisions regarding irrigation, soil management, and inputs
- Manage irrigation systems and soil health practices to optimise crop yield and quality
- Oversee harvesting operations, including timing, labour coordination, and workflow
- Ensure produce meets required quality standards, including grading, storage, and preparation for dispatch
- Maintain and review production records, including inputs, yields, and quality outcomes to support ongoing planning
- Operate and oversee the use of farm machinery, including tractors and other equipment, ensuring safe and effective use
- Identify and respond to operational issues, including weather impacts, crop performance, and production delays
- Support and guide other staff where required, ensuring tasks are carried out efficiently and safely
General Responsibilites:
- Comply with all Health & Safety requirements and contribute to a safe working environment
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and product handling
- Work collaboratively with the Managing Director and wider team to achieve production goals
- Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and the ability to work independently
