Our Palmerston North based client is a specialist New Zealand engineering business delivering high-quality process solutions into the liquid food, dairy, beverage, and wider FMCG manufacturing sectors. Known for their practical, hands-on approach, they partner closely with clients to design, build, install and support tailored processing systems that improve product quality, plant efficiency, hygiene standards, and yield optimisation.

Their solutions are trusted within demanding production environments where food safety, reliability, and compliance are critical. From milk and dairy processing through to beverage, and liquid food applications, they provide end-to-end engineering capability across the full project lifecycle.

With a strong reputation for technical expertise and customer-centric delivery, they offer a highly engaging environment for a Process Engineer who enjoys working on real-world processing challenges and seeing projects through from concept to commissioning.

The Opportunity

This is a true end-to-end Process Engineering role, where you will take ownership of projects from initial enquiry and concept design through to commissioning and ongoing plant support.

You will be involved in designing and delivering liquid processing systems, including pumping, heat exchange, hygienic pipework, CIP systems, and process flow optimisation, ensuring solutions meet both operational and food safety requirements.

This is not a desk-only role, you will be hands-on across workshop and site environments, working directly with production teams to commission systems, optimise performance, and troubleshoot plant issues in live manufacturing environments.

You will also support the commercial side of the business, contributing to technical sales, quoting, and solution development, and identifying opportunities to improve plant performance, efficiency, and throughput.

Success in this role will come from your ability to combine strong process engineering fundamentals with practical, on-site problem-solving, while building trusted relationships with clients across the food and dairy sector.

The Role: Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the sales cycle through technical input, process design, and quoting

  • Design and specify equipment across liquid food processing systems (pumps, valves, heat exchangers, CIP systems)

  • Develop P&IDs and process flow diagrams using AutoCAD

  • Prepare costings, quotes, proposals, and technical documentation

  • Work closely with clients to understand production processes and identify improvement opportunities

  • Manage projects from acceptance through to installation and commissioning

  • Coordinate internal teams, fabricators, and specialist contractors

  • Oversee timelines, budgets, and project performance

  • Ensure systems meet food-grade, hygienic design and compliance standards

  • Carry out workshop and on-site commissioning within food and dairy plants

  • Develop operating manuals, SOPs, and process documentation

  • Troubleshoot plant issues including flow, temperature control, product handling, and system performance

  • Provide ongoing after-sales support to optimise plant efficiency and reliability

  • Build strong relationships with plant managers, engineers, and operators

About You: We are looking for a practical, solutions-focused Process Engineer with experience in liquid food, dairy, beverage, or FMCG processing environments.

Ideally you will bring:

  • Min 3-4+ years’ experience within dairy, liquid food, beverage, or hygienic processing industries

  • An understanding of CIP systems, heat transfer, fluid handling, and hygienic design principles

  • Experience with AutoCAD and P&ID development.

  • Proven ability to manage projects and work across multiple priorities

  • Hands-on and comfortable working both on-site and in design environments

  • Confident communicator, comfortable engaging directly with clients and site teams

  • Customer-focused, with a drive to deliver practical, high-performing solutions

  • Formal process or mechanical engineering qualification or similar.

  • Able to travel nationally and internationally (Australia)

What you will get in return:

  • Work on technically interesting, real-world food processing projects.

  • Strong ownership across full project lifecycle.

  • Exposure to a wide range of dairy, beverage, and liquid food applications

  • Supportive, down-to-earth team environment

  • Long-term career growth within a specialist engineering business

Remuneration & Benefits:

  • Depending on your experience, the base salary will be between $100K - $160K

  • Health Insurance for you and support for the family

  • Company-Sponsored Education Fund for your family

  • Potential relocation support if necessary.
