We are seeking a Fleet Manager to oversee the planning, coordination, and performance of a courier fleet operating under a major New Zealand postal services contract. This role is responsible for managing fleet assets, supervising courier operations, and ensuring efficient and compliant transport services.
The position involves both strategic oversight and operational coordination, including managing drivers, optimising delivery schedules, and maintaining vehicle performance and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Organise and control the procurement, leasing, registration, and maintenance of transport vehicles and related equipment
Monitor vehicle performance, servicing schedules, and fuel usage to ensure cost-effective operations
Ensure all fleet assets comply with regulatory, safety, and licensing requirements
Plan, implement, and oversee transportation schedules to meet contractual delivery timeframes
Coordinate dispatch, route allocation, and daily delivery operations
Ensure goods are stored and transported in conditions that maintain their integrity and quality
Supervise courier drivers and coordinate workforce allocation across delivery routes
Monitor driver performance to ensure adherence to company procedures, including:
- Safe loading and unloading practices
- Accurate documentation and delivery verification
- Collection of payments and proof of delivery
- Maintenance of delivery records and logs
Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to drivers
Liaise with clients to determine delivery requirements and provide advice on service options, pricing, and obligations
Manage service issues, customer enquiries, and complaint resolution
Oversee booking systems and ensure accurate capture of delivery requests
Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and transport legislation
Monitor incident reporting, accident procedures, and risk management processes
Maintain business records and prepare operational reports, including fleet utilisation and service performance metrics
Minimum Requirements
Must hold a minimum diploma qualification OR at least three years of relevant work experience
Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, procurement, and operational planning
Understanding of New Zealand transport regulations and health & safety requirements
Proven ability to manage schedules, resources, and competing priorities
