Herd Managers and Farm Assistants
AKAAL AGRI LIMITED is looking for Herd Managers & Farm Assistants (multiple positions) to join the busy farms near Taupo, Waikato.
For the Herd Manager role, some of the daily tasks would be:
- Understands and implements efficient milking practices and keeps the farm dairy hygienic.
- Records health treatments and solves milk quality problems.
- Safely uses and maintains vehicles on farm as directed by on farm policy.
- Diagnoses common ailments and treats accordingly. Competent in all aspects of calving and reproduction, e.g. observation, recording and submitted on heat cows
- Implements best practice for pasture, crop and supplement management for optimal quality and utilisation.
- Understands regulations and management of nutrients, effluent and water and their most efficient use.
- Trains junior employees in simple skills. Developing communication and reporting skills.
The right applicant will be punctual, reliable and have good communication skills. You will be managing staff and the milking operations.
You should have 1-3 years of NZ dairy farming experience. You should be able to provide previous work references.
Offered wage rate: $32 - $36 per hour (based on skills and experience) with accommodation deductions of $250 per week.
This is a full-time position with a minimum 30 hours per week commitment.
This is a drug-free work zone, and the applicant will need to be comfortable with undergoing a drug test if ever requested.
Police vetting may also be requested

For the Farm Assistant role, some of your tasks related to this position would be:
- Assists in the milking process.
- Follows the procedure to produce high-quality milk.
- Assists in the safe handling of animals, reports any health and welfare issues as per farm policy.
- Controls weeds.
- Sets break fences and feeds out as directed.
- Assists with nutrient, effluent and water management as directed by farm policy.
- Safely uses and maintains vehicles on the farm
The right applicant will be punctual, reliable and have good communication skills.
Previous farming experience is preferred but not essential, as proper training will be provided to the right candidate.
This is a drug-free work zone and the applicant will need to be comfortable with undergoing a drug test if ever requested. Police vetting may also be requested.
You should be able to provide previous work references.
Salary: $25 per hour
This is a full-time position with a minimum 30 hours per week commitment.
Accommodation at the farm with $250 per week rent deduction.
You should be able to work on weekends, late evenings and on calls.
You should be physically fit to lift 20 kg weight and to perform farm duties.
You should have a full driving license.
