Position Purpose:
The purpose of the Heavy Diesel Mechanic position is to assemble, install, maintain, and repair heavy machinery, equipment and engines to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and performance. This role conducts routine, preventative maintenance and troubleshoots electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults, ensuring all plant equipment operates efficiently.
This role is based principally in Auckland, however the nature of our operations means the successful applicant may occasionally be required to work or attend duties in other locations across New Zealand, including (but not limited to):
Auckland Manawatu- Whanganui Southland Wellington
Bay of Plenty Malborough Taranaki West Coast
Canterbury Nelson Tasman
Gisborne Northland Waikato
Hawke's Bay Otago
- Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed
- Employee may be required to work or travel across New Zealand
Work in another locations:
- The employee will be given reasonable notice when required to
work in another location. - All work‑related travel costs, including transport and
accommodation (where applicable), will be covered by the
employer. - Travel or temporary work in another location will not disadvantage
the employee in any way. - If the employee is unable to travel due to reasonable
circumstances, the employer will discuss alternative arrangements. - The primary base of employment remains in Auckland, and this is where the role is principally carried out.
Applicants must have:
- Relevant tertiary education;and/or
- 2 years of relevant experience
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plant Operations
- Ensure safe working environment in areas of responsibility.
- Keep plant area clean, organized & free of rubbish
- Store plant safely and systematically for easy retrieval.
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous or fragile material
- Ensure all machinery operates safely by conducting inspections & risk assessment & testing to prevent accidents.
2. Documentation
- Maintain & update all plant service and defect records and plant manuals
3. Incoming Plant - Sites
- Manage return of plant & equipment including inspection, testing and sign in
- Ensure all damaged plant equipment are tagged out and the correct paperwork completed to organize repairs
4. Outgoing Plant-Sites/Clients
- Inspection, testing and checking plan & equipment before sending out to sites
- Meet all work schedules and order deadlines to support sites
5. Preventive Maintenance
- Perform routine servicing such as: (1) Servicing of plant and equipment (2) Replacement of worn parts (3) Inspection - to prevent equipment breakdowns and extend machine life
6. Troubleshooting and Repair
- Diagnose, dismantle, and fix faulty components in: engines, hydraulic systems and electrical components
- Advise on spares requirements to avoid long lead times in the event of breakdowns
- Lock out any unsafe plant and repair / make safe for use
7. Installation and Assembly
- Set up, align. and commission new or overhauled machinery to technical specifications.
8. Minimizing Downtime
- Quickly resolve technical issues to: Keep construction projects moving and ensure plant is operating at full capacity
9. Storage & Organization
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the plant area
10. Reporting
- Provide monthly report on Plant repairs and maintenance completed.
