​​Job Description

  • Set up sewing machines by threading them, loading bobbins, and positioning components for stitching.
  • Operate machines using foot pedals and knee levers to control speed and coordinate presser feet, guides, blades, and other attachments while accurately guiding fabric along seams and markings.
  • Replace needles and adjust, fasten, or modify machine attachments as needed.
  • Complete products by trimming excess fabric and loose threads.
  • Use thread-trimming and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Check stitching quality, identify defects, and report any machine issues to maintenance staff.
  • Carry out routine upkeep, including lubricating equipment.
  • Perform fabric laying and bundling duties when required.
  • Tag, label, and complete finishing processes for finished items.
  • Operate industrial sewing machines to stitch and finish garments and other textile products.
  • Machines MDF by cutting, planing, turning, shaping and sanding to meet required specifications.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable tasks assigned by the employer.

  • Location: Christchurch
  • Job type: Full-time Permanent
  • Pay rate: 26.00- 30.00 New Zealand dollars per hour
  • Days required: Monday to Friday (rosters may apply).
  • Hours per week: At least 30

Job Requirement

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, or a relevant NZ Level 4 qualification (or equivalent overseas qualification), or a Bachelor degree in any discipline is required.
