Terraspan Limited is a well-established Auckland-based civil construction company specialising in bulk earthworks, excavation, site preparation, and clean filling operations. The Excavator Operator is responsible for operating excavators and other earthmoving machinery to carry out excavation, trenching, loading, backfilling, leveling, and site preparation work on construction and civil projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate excavators and other earthmoving machinery safely and efficiently.
- Perform bulk and precision excavation work according to site plans and specifications.
- Read and interpret construction and civil drawings.
- Select, fit, and operate attachments such as buckets, breakers, augers, and compactors.
- Excavate, drill, trench, level, compact, and backfill as required.
- Load and move earth, rock, soil, rubble, and other materials.
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections and routine safety checks.
- Clean, lubricate, refuel, and carry out basic maintenance on machinery.
- Identify faults and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Follow site instructions and health and safety procedures.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and other site personnel.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- At least two years of relevant work experience operating excavators and earthmoving equipment; or
- A relevant qualification at NZQCF Level 4 or above (or an equivalent overseas qualification).
In addition, applicants must:
- Be physically fit and capable of performing manual work when required.
- Be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Have a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Have no serious criminal convictions that would make them unsuitable for the role.
