This role is based principally in CANTERBURY, however the nature of our
operations means the successful applicant may occasionally be
required to work or attend duties in OTAGO as well.

Purpose
The Heavy Mobile Plant Operator is responsible for operating a range of mobile and fixed
plant machinery to support civil construction and site operations. The role also includes
general site labouring duties to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a
high standard.

  • Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed. 

Applicants must have the following as per employer’s requirements: 

  • Applicants must pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Applicants must provide a CV.
  • Must have a driver licence
  • Candidate must have at least 3 years of relevant experience OR a level 4 qualification
  • Reliable attendance and good communication skills
  • Applicants must be physically fit and capable of repeatedly lifting 20–25kg
  • Able to stand, bend, kneel, and carry out manual tasks for extended periods
  • Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Willingness to work approximately 30–50 hours per week depending on operational
    requirements
  • Occasional weekend work may be required by mutual agreement, with prior notice
    provided and shifts confirmed in advance
  •  Commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment

Work in another locations:

  • The employee will be given reasonable notice when required to
    work in another location.
  • All work‑related travel costs, including transport and
    accommodation (where applicable), will be covered by the employer.
  • Travel or temporary work in another location will not disadvantage the employee in any way.
  • If the employee is unable to travel due to reasonablecircumstances, the employer will discuss alternative arrangements.
  • The primary base of employment remains in Canterbury, and this is where the role is principally carried out.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy mobile plant machinery including rollers, water carts, loaders, and
    excavators, subject to competency verification prior to operation
  • Operate and assist with maintenance of fixed plant equipment, including concrete
    plants
  • Carry out general site clean-up, debris removal, and sweeping
  • Load, unload, and transport materials around site
  • Assist trades staff with measuring, cutting, staging, and general labour support
  • Use basic hand and power tools including shovels, wheelbarrows, drills, and saws
    under supervision
  • Assist with erecting and dismantling temporary site structures including fencing,
    barricades, and scaffolding support
  • Support trenching, backfilling, and compaction activities
  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, policies, and site instructions
  • Report hazards, incidents, or equipment faults promptly to supervisors
