About the Role
AIS BOP Limited is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Technician to work at our client's site in the Bay of Plenty on a full-time, permanent basis. You will provide technical support across civil construction and infrastructure projects, assisting engineers with survey, design, drafting, and site supervision activities. The role involves a mix of office-based and on-site work across roading, drainage, earthworks, and general civil construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing technical support to engineers on civil construction and infrastructure projects including roading, drainage, earthworks, water, and wastewater
- Preparing and interpreting engineering drawings, plans, and specifications using CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar)
- Undertaking site inspections, surveys, and quality assurance checks during construction
- Assisting with quantity calculations, cost estimates, and material take-offs
- Collecting, recording, and analysing field data including levels, measurements, and test results
- Preparing technical reports, site diaries, and project documentation
- Ensuring all work complies with relevant New Zealand standards, council requirements, and health and safety obligations
- Liaising with contractors, council officers, consultants, and project teams on site
- Supporting resource consent applications and compliance monitoring where required
What We're Looking For
- New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil) or overseas equivalent qualification (minimum NZQF Level 6) — OR at least 3 years' relevant experience in a civil engineering technician role
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar CAD/drafting software
- Practical understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and standards
- Experience with site surveying equipment and techniques
- Strong understanding of New Zealand civil infrastructure standards and local authority requirements would be desirable
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- A current, full New Zealand driver's licence pr ability to secure one
- Practical understanding of health and safety requirements on construction sites
Desirable:
- Experience with GIS, project management tools, or estimating software
- Familiarity with Bay of Plenty council requirements and local conditions
