Tyre Fitter

Opotiki Tyre Service is after two tyre fitters to join their team. Based in the small town of Opotiki, Bay of Plenty, we service the wider region for all their automotive tyre needs. From farm to road vehicles.  

Full time - Minimum of 40 hours, maximum of 45 hours per week.  
Pay is between $26 to $30 per hour, depending on experience.  

Reporting to the Workshop Manager / Owner, the Tyre Fitter(s) is responsible for fitting, repairing, rotating, balancing, and maintaining tyres for passenger, commercial, agricultural, and fleet vehicles. The role includes providing professional customer service, ensuring vehicles meet safety standards, and maintaining a safe and efficient workshop environment in accordance with New Zealand workplace health and safety requirements 

  • Remove, fit, repair, and replace tyres on a range of vehicles. 

  • Inspect tyres for wear, damage, punctures, and safety concerns. 

  • Carry out puncture repairs in line with industry standards. 

  • Balance wheels and tyres using electronic balancing equipment. 

  • Conduct tyre pressure checks and adjustments. 

  • Perform wheel alignments where trained and authorised. 

  • Rotate tyres and complete basic vehicle safety checks. 

  • Safely operate hoists, jacks, compressors, and tyre fitting machinery. 

  • Drive vehicles into workshop bays and perform road tests as required.  

  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and organisation. 

  • Ensure tools and equipment are maintained in good working order. 

  • Assist with stock handling and tyre inventory management. 

  • Provide professional advice on tyre selection, maintenance, and safety. 

  • Explain repair requirements and recommended replacements to customers. 

 

Required experience / qualities: 

  • At least two years experience in a tyre fitter / tyre technician role or similar.  

  • Good physical fitness and ability to safely lift heavy tyres. 

  • Strong practical and mechanical aptitude. 

  • Good communication and customer service skills. 

  • Full New Zealand Driver Licence (or the ability to work towards one)
