About the role
Are you a welder/metal machinist with a background in the structural backbone of construction? We are looking for a dedicated welder /Metal Machinist to join our factory and play a critical role in shaping the future of our local infrastructure.
In this position, you will not just be cutting metal & bending; you will be ensuring the integrity of major builds. You will operate, set up, and maintain CNC machinery used to bend, cut, and roll reinforcing steel (rebar) to exact engineering specifications.
We are looking for an individual who has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in reinforcing steel fabrication, welding, and machining. Adherence to strict health and safety requirements is critical, along with a keen eye for detail.
Ideally the successful candidate will possess experience in programming CNC machines for forming shapes of reinforcing steel or similar steel trades, such as structural steel, in addition to knowledge of CNC machine programming and operation.
What You will Do
- Machining: Operate CNC and manual bending/cutting machines for high-tensile reinforcing steel.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on specialized heavy-duty CNC machinery.
- Welding: MIG or Arc welding for steel cages.
- Technical: Interpret structural blueprints and bending schedules with 100% accuracy.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct quality checks to ensure all steel meets NZ building standards and tolerances.
Qualification: An advantage but not essential
What We are Looking For
- Experience: Proven background in metal machining or steel fabrication (experience with reinforcing steel is a major plus).
- Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints, bending schedules & drawings and use precision measuring tools and accurate programming of CNC machines.
- Attitude: A safety-first mindset and a commitment to "getting it right the first time."
- Fitness: The role is physically active and requires the ability to handle heavy materials safely.
· Proactive approach to health and safety
· General handling of heavy steel using forklifts, lifting beams and overhead cranes.
· Assist with factory production.
· Measuring, cutting, and bending reinforcing steel, to precession to minimise wastage
· Use of small and large automated and manual machinery for steel forming, bending, and cutting and shaping.
· Maintain all equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
· Be an experienced welder.
· Proactive approach to health and safety
· ‘’Can Do” attitude, honest and reliable.
· Be a team player and also have the ability to work along with good time management skills to achieve deadlines.
· Drug free and will be tested prior to commencement of employment.
· Must be able to work flexible hours and additional hours if required.
· Work as a team and be responsible for ensuring that fabrication timelines are met.
· Experience in either MIG or Arc welding and have at least 2-3 years’ experience.
· Able to read bending schedules /drawings and manufacture standard and custom -made products in keeping with our high-quality standards.
