The Bar and Venue Manager is responsible for the operational management of The Tuning Fork, a live music venue in Auckland. The role oversees food and beverage operations, staff management, financial performance, and compliance, including liquor licensing obligations. Working closely with the GM Spark Arena, the manager ensures each event is delivered to a consistent standard while maximising revenue and maintaining all statutory requirements.

The Role:
The Bar and Venue Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of The Tuning Fork, a live music venue in Auckland. This includes oversight of food and beverage operations, financial performance, venue presentation, and compliance. The role also requires building and maintaining effective relationships with hirers, suppliers, contractors, community groups, and staff, and leading the venue team to deliver consistently high operational standards. This is a full time role with weekly working hours of 40 hours per week. Working hours may vary according to event scheduling. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage venue operations efficiently, ensuring the event diary is commercially maximised and all compliance obligations are met.
  • Oversee all food and beverage operations, maintaining quality standards and keeping up with market trends to suit varying audience demographics.
  • Plan and execute each event, ensuring F&B delivery, security, and venue presentation are aligned to the show's size, genre, and demographic.
  • Act as Liquor Licensee, ensuring obligations under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act, food safety legislation, and health and safety requirements are always met.
  • Manage all venue staff, including recruitment, rostering, training, and performance development.
  • Maximise revenue and profit margins across all revenue streams, with a focus on food and beverage.
  • Undertake event management responsibilities, including client liaison, Front of House oversight, and venue presentation standards.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, monthly forecasts, and financial reporting in conjunction with the Live Nation finance team.
  • Work with the GM Spark Arena to develop and implement a five-year business plan, including strategies to grow show count, attendance, and secondary income streams.
  • Ensure all statutory and licensing requirements are met, and that appropriate governance processes are understood and applied across the team.
  • Chair the Health & Safety Committee and ensure compliance with all licensing and safety regulations

 

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Current Managers Certificate (or equivalent License Controller Qualification), with demonstrated experience in the responsible service of alcohol.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team in a hospitality or live events environment.
  • Sound understanding of food and beverage management, including cost control and product selection.
  • Experience managing compliance obligations, including liquor licensing, food safety, and health and safety legislation.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Experience working with event promoters, production crews, and external contractors.
  • Understanding of the technical requirements of live entertainment events.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and able to manage the demands of a high-volume, event-driven environment.
