Kelston Auto Repairs is a long-standing West Auckland workshop offering repairs, servicing, diagnostics, brakes, batteries, auto electrical, and panel and paint work. It has been operating for over 10 years and has continued to grow under new ownership since 2022.
The team works on everything from everyday cars to luxury and modified vehicles, using quality parts and proper tools to provide safe, reliable service and keep vehicles roadworthy.
We are looking for a Mobile Automotive Service Technician / Roadside Mechanic to join our team. This is a permanent full-time role with a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week. Additional hours may be available depending on business needs.
Pay rate: Competitive hourly rate, in line with industry standards, skills and experience.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out tyre fitting, balancing, puncture repairs, rotations and tyre condition checks.
- Complete basic vehicle servicing and minor repairs, including battery checks, fluid checks, wiper and bulb replacement, and routine service support.
- Inspect tyres, wheels, brakes, steering, suspension, lights and visible safety components during vehicle intake and pre-WOF checks.
- Support the WOF Inspector, Senior Mechanic and workshop team by identifying tyre, service and safety issues requiring attention.
- Attend local mobile and customer-site jobs, including tyre callouts, battery support, non-start checks and minor roadside assistance.
- Assist with basic parts removal and replacement, post-repair checks and general workshop duties.
- Use workshop tools, tyre equipment and basic diagnostic equipment safely and correctly.
- Discuss service requirements with customers and obtain approval before work starts.
- Prepare basic quotes for tyres, servicing and minor repair work.
- Keep accurate job notes, parts records and customer updates.
- Maintain stock of tyres, batteries and common service parts.
- Keep the workshop, tools, tyre equipment and mobile service vehicle clean, safe and organised.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and company policies.
- Escalate complex mechanical faults, WOF issues and major repairs to the Director, WOF Inspector or Mechanic.
What we’re looking for
The ideal applicant will have:
- At least 3 years’ hands-on experience in automotive servicing, tyre fitting, roadside assistance or a similar mechanical role.
- Good practical knowledge of vehicle servicing, tyres, batteries and minor mechanical repairs.
- Confidence using workshop tools, tyre equipment and basic diagnostic equipment safely and correctly.
- Physical fitness and ability to safely carry out tyre changes, lifting, bending, roadside work and general workshop duties.
- A full, clean New Zealand driver licence and confidence driving to customer sites and roadside callouts.
- Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain basic service issues clearly to customers.
- Reliability, punctuality and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and pride in completing safe, tidy and quality work.
- Willingness to follow workplace health and safety procedures and company policies at all times.
- A police check may be required due to the mobile and customer-facing nature of the role.
