The Top Energy Group operates throughout the Far North, delivering geothermal electricity generation and electricity network operations. About the role
We are looking for a Plant Technical Operator to help keep the Ngāwhā Geothermal Power Station running safely, reliably, and efficiently. In this hands-on role, you'll monitor plant conditions, support routine operations and maintenance, and help ensure we meet our environmental consent requirements—so the Far North has dependable, locally generated renewable electricity when it's needed most.
This position reports to the Lead Operator and is based at Ngāwhā. To support on-site operations and callouts, the successful applicant must live within 30 minutes of the Generation Plant.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and monitor all power station systems
- Identify, develop, and enhance current operating procedures
- Carry out preventative maintenance procedures
- Authorise and organise the work plan for staff and contractors
- Carry out the Lock and Tag safety management system
- Effectively manage the geothermal resource and consent conditions
About you
To succeed in this role, you'll have relevant experience in an industrial environment and be comfortable working with industrial automation and control systems.
Whilst experience in the energy industry is preferred, we also welcome applicants who have recently completed a trade qualification in a relevant field and who would be eager to expand on it in the geothermal industry. Alternatively, applicants with experience in a heavy industry operational environment with transferable skills are also encouraged to apply. You must have the ability to understand engineering drawings and principles, with proven experience in scheduling operations and assisting with maintenance work. You will have experience in planning and carrying out plant shutdowns. It is essential that you hold a full current NZ Drivers Licence. With ENCHEM study support and on-the-job training; you can grow your knowledge and practical skills in a forward-looking energy business.
