We are seeking an experienced Block Manager for a large-scale sheep and beef property. The property runs approximately 17,000 stock units across 2,500 hectares, including irrigated and dryland farming systems. The successful applicant will be expected to work independently, manage daily operational requirements, and contribute to the wider farm management programme.
This is a physically demanding, full-time permanent role involving responsibility for a mixed irrigated and dryland block within a commercial farming operation. The position involves managing long hours during busy seasonal periods, work in difficult weather conditions, and some weekend responsibilities as required by the farming operation.
Key Responsibilities
• Day-to-day management and implementation of the farm plan on an assigned block
• Livestock handling, animal health treatments, drafting, weighing, and monitoring stock performance
• Feed allocation, pasture management, stock rotation planning, and feed budgeting
• Irrigation monitoring and management
• Accurate farm record keeping and reporting using farm management software
• General farm maintenance including fencing, water systems, tracks, yards, and machinery upkeep
• Weed and pest monitoring and control
• Operating farm vehicles, tractors, side-by-sides, and farm machinery safely
• Supervising and assisting junior staff when required
• Maintaining health and safety standards across all work activities
Minimum Requirements
• Minimum 3 years’ relevant sheep and beef farming experience in a similar role
• Proven practical livestock handling and stock management ability
• Experience managing working dogs and maintaining an effective dog team
• Ability to work unsupervised and make sound operational decisions
• Experience with feed budgeting, pasture allocation, and stock performance monitoring
• Competent computer and record-keeping skills
• Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Full driver licence required
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety
Preferred Qualifications
• Relevant agricultural or farm management qualification preferred but not essential
• Experience with irrigated farming systems advantageous
• Previous leadership or staff supervision experience preferred
