Experienced Senior Payroll Officer required for initial 3-month contract with an immediate start
We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Professional to join our Oamaru based clients on an initial 3-month contract. We’re looking for someone who is a seasoned Payroll Officer who can hit the ground running and provide expert support across a complex payroll environment.

This role can be remote for candidates based in the Canterbury, Otago and Southland region with an initial short-term period in Oamaru for onboarding.

What You Can Expect:

  • End-to-end payroll processing for a medium to large workforce
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant payroll legislation and organisational policies
  • Interpret and apply collective employment agreements (CEAs) and individual employment agreements (IEAs)
  • Manage payroll reporting, data analysis, and reconciliation processes
  • Respond to audit requests, RFIs, and internal queries with accuracy and timeliness
  • Support continuous improvement of payroll processes and controls
  • Work closely with HR and Finance to ensure alignment with organisational requirements

  
What You’ll Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in payroll within a medium to large organisation
  • In-depth understanding of New Zealand payroll legislation, including the Holidays Act and Employment Relations Act
  • Proven knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Sound understanding of general accounting principles and financial management
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports
  • Experience handling audits, KPI reporting, and complex payroll queries
  • High attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Previous hands-on experience in Employment Hero will be highly advantageous.
