We are an established and growing multi-site retail and import business operating across multiple locations in New Zealand. Our business specialises in sourcing, importing, distributing, and retailing a wide range of consumer products through an expanding network of retail operations.
As our business continues to expand in scale, geographic footprint, product range, and operational complexity, we are seeking an experienced General Manager to provide centralised leadership across all business units, retail locations, and operational functions.
The successful candidate will play a key executive role overseeing business operations, driving commercial performance, managing import and supply chain activities, and supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Executive Management
• Provide executive leadership across multiple retail locations and operational functions to ensure alignment with company objectives and growth strategies
• Develop and implement business strategies, operational frameworks, and performance plans to support long-term expansion and profitability
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators across business units and implement corrective actions where required
• Lead business improvement initiatives, organisational development programmes, and operational scaling projects
• Report directly to company directors regarding business performance, strategic initiatives, operational risks, and growth opportunities
Multi-Site Operational Management
• Oversee day-to-day operational performance across multiple retail locations and ensure consistency in customer service, operational processes, and business standards
• Provide leadership and support to store managers and operational leaders across different business locations
• Monitor staffing requirements, workforce planning, operational efficiency, and resource allocation across sites
• Implement systems and procedures to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and service delivery outcomes
Import, Procurement and Supply Chain Management
• Lead procurement planning, supplier negotiations, and purchasing strategies across domestic and international supply channels
• Oversee import activities including supplier coordination, shipping schedules, inventory planning, landed cost management, and logistics processes
• Monitor inventory levels, stock allocation, warehousing operations, and replenishment strategies across multiple locations
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, logistics providers, freight partners, and key commercial stakeholders
Financial and Commercial Management
• Hold responsibility for budgeting, financial performance, cost management, revenue optimisation, and profitability across business operations
• Analyse sales performance, inventory metrics, purchasing costs, and operational expenditure to support business decision-making
• Lead pricing strategies, margin management initiatives, and commercial negotiations to improve business performance
• Monitor financial risks, contractual obligations, and business compliance requirements
People Leadership and Organisational Development
• Lead, mentor, and manage managers and staff across multiple functions including operations, sales, warehousing, procurement, customer service, and administration
• Establish workforce planning, performance management systems, training initiatives, and succession planning frameworks
• Support recruitment and capability-building initiatives to strengthen organisational performance and leadership depth
Skills and Experience Required
• Extensive senior management experience within retail, import, wholesale, distribution, or multi-site commercial environments
• Demonstrated experience leading multiple business functions including operations, procurement, logistics, sales, inventory management, and financial management
• Strong understanding of import operations, supplier management, procurement planning, and supply chain coordination
• Proven ability to manage managers and lead teams across multiple business locations
• Experience managing budgets, business performance metrics, profitability, and commercial decision-making
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with the ability to manage competing priorities within fast-paced environments
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills
• Relevant tertiary qualification in business, management, commerce, supply chain, finance, or related disciplines preferred
