Position Summary
The Retail Buyer is responsible for selecting and buying homeware and furniture goods for resale across Space General New Zealand's e-commerce platforms. Leveraging commercial trading expertise, this role bridges local retail market demands with international supply chains by monitoring market conditions, negotiating with overseas suppliers, and executing strategic procurement plans.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1.Market Analysis & Product Selection: Monitor e-commerce sales data, inventory levels, and international manufacturing trade information to keep informed of changing market conditions. Anticipate domestic consumer trends—such as space-saving layouts and work-from-home modifications—and determine the exact quantity, style, and quality of goods to be purchased.

2. Supplier Negotiation & Procurement: Act as the primary liaison with overseas manufacturers and primary distribution brands. Utilize commercial trading experience to negotiate purchase, promotion, and supply arrangements, ensuring optimal unit costs and reliable production lead times.

3. Pricing & Merchandising Strategy: Design and implement competitive pricing, marketing, promotional, and digital display strategies tailored to the New Zealand e-commerce market to maximize stock turn rates and gross margins.

4. Strategic Management Liaison: Liaise closely with the Director and senior management regarding long-term supply chain planning, infrastructure expansion, and major sales promotions.

5. Financial & Seasonal Planning: Establish precise purchasing working plans according to strict budgetary requirements and seasonal demand shifts, such as scaling up winter heating options or pivoting to summer outdoor leisure lines.

6. Administrative Coordination: Manage end-to-end procurement workflows, track international freight timelines, and partner with warehouse to align physical capacity with large-scale product receipts.

 

Skill Requirements

  • Qualification in Commerce, Management, Marketing, or Business Administration.
  • Alternatively, At least 2 years of relevant experience in Commodity Trading, Import/Export Operations, Procurement, or Business Management.
