Job description

In this role to meet Tokyo Food’s quality assurance policy, you will be responsible for ensuring on a day-to-day basis that the food we source or contract manufacture domestically and internationally is safe, suitable for human consumption, and complies with New Zealand food safety rules and import regulations. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring products are properly food labelled. This includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

  • Obtaining product specifications, food safety certificates, and relevant documents from our suppliers (food manufacturers and exporters) to confirm the origin, raw materials, additives, allergens, nutritional content, etc. of the food product we source, and to ensure that they fully meet food safety standards
  • In the case of products imported from overseas, confirm whether they can be imported in accordance with New Zealand’s food import regulations
  • As a person in charge of creating food labelling (ingredient and nutrition information), always stay up-to-date on the latest food safety standards and food labelling standards, and verify that the food labelling of the products we handle is accurate based on Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSANZ code)
  • Based on the original packaging and specifications written in Japanese for products imported from Japan, creating accurate English food labelling that complies with New Zealand rules and regulations
  • Preparing documentation to support internal and external food safety audits
  • Creating and maintaining internal training manuals of food safety and food labelling standards periodically
  • Assigning a product code and registering a new product in the company's system after the decision is made to introduce a new product

Compensation

$29.00 - $32.00 per hour

 

Minimum guaranteed hours of work

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

 

Requirements

  • Minimum one year of relevant experience in product quality control or product quality assurance (ideally in the food industry but not mandatory), or experience in similar work
  • Fluency in Japanese - the successful candidate must be proficient in Japanese because this role involves reading and instantly understanding product specifications and packaging written in the Japanese language
  • Extensive knowledge of food safety, food hygiene, food labelling, Japanese foods, and international food standards will be a big advantage
  • Be computer literate (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Have a positive attitude and confidence and are motivated to work independently as well as in a team
  • Punctual, reliable attendance to the office and can focus consistently on a daily business basis
  • We may ask you to provide references to verify your previous role, achievements, and work ethics at your previous companies
