We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) contractor to join our team on client site (in Dunedin) and play a key role in delivering a critical SQL Server upgrade project. This is a hands-on role requiring close collaboration with technical teams and business stakeholders to modernise and optimise the database environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute upgrades across SQL Server environments (including planning, testing, and deployment)
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and minimise disruption during upgrades
- Assess existing database infrastructure and recommend improvements
- Perform risk analysis, backup planning, and rollback strategies for upgrade activities
- Ensure database performance, availability, and security throughout the upgrade lifecycle
- Troubleshoot issues arising during upgrade processes and implement fixes swiftly
- Document procedures, configurations, and upgrade outcomes
- Provide knowledge transfer and support post-upgrade
- Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server upgrades and migrations
- Expertise in:
- SQL Server (multiple versions)
- Backup/restore, high availability (e.g., Always On, clustering)
- Performance tuning and optimisation
- Ability to work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience working in onsite, collaborative project environments
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS)
- Familiarity with automation or scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL)
- Knowledge of security and compliance best practices
