About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Delivery Manager to organise, control and oversee our courier transport operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the overall delivery operation, ensuring efficient transport services, compliance with contractual obligations, operational performance and strategic improvements across the business.
This is a senior operational management position requiring independent decision-making, leadership skills and the ability to manage transport resources, staff, fleet operations and business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Organise, direct and control the overall courier transport operations to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity, service quality, cost management and business growth.
- Manage the performance, training, scheduling, and development of courier drivers and other operational staff.
- Determine staffing requirements and participate in recruitment, performance management and workforce planning.
- Manage transport resources including fleet utilisation, vehicle replacement planning, maintenance programmes, registrations and compliance requirements.
- Monitor operational expenditure, control costs and provide recommendations on budgets and resource allocation.
- Liaise with NZ Post and other business clients regarding service delivery standards, operational requirements, complaints and contract compliance.
- Analyse operational performance data, prepare management reports and implement improvements to maintain high delivery standards.
- Develop and maintain health and safety systems, transport compliance procedures and operational policies.
- Ensure the business complies with all relevant transport, employment and health and safety legislation.
- Make independent operational decisions to resolve complex delivery, staffing, fleet and customer service matters.
Skills and Experience Required
Applicants must have:
- At least two years of relevant experience in transport operations management, logistics management, fleet management or a supervisory management role within the transport industry;
OR
- Tertiary Qualification
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Proven leadership and people management skills
- Ability to independently manage transport operations and make strategic decisions
- Strong understanding of fleet management, operational planning, and compliance requirements
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
- Ability to analyse operational performance and implement improvements
