About us

New Zealand Live Fish Market is an established New Zealand seafood business supplying premium live, chilled, frozen and dried seafood products to local customers, wholesale clients and export markets.

We operate across seafood sourcing, factory processing, wholesale supply, online sales, retail distribution and export-related business channels. As the business continues to grow, we are seeking a senior commercial professional to lead our sales, marketing, wholesale and export development strategy.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Sales and Marketing Manager to lead the company’s commercial growth across New Zealand and selected overseas markets.

This is a senior management role. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies, managing key wholesale and export relationships, growing business-to-business customer channels, and coordinating commercial activities across the company’s seafood supply, processing, retail and export operations.

The role will report directly to the CEO.

Key responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement the company’s sales and marketing strategy for wholesale, retail, online and export channels.
  2. Identify and develop new business opportunities with restaurants, supermarkets, seafood retailers, distributors, importers and export customers.
  3. Manage key customer relationships and negotiate commercial terms, pricing, supply arrangements and long-term sales opportunities.
  4. Lead market research, customer segmentation, pricing analysis and product positioning for live and premium seafood products.
  5. Prepare sales forecasts, revenue targets, marketing budgets and management reports for the CEO.
  6. Plan and oversee marketing campaigns, trade promotions, product launches, digital marketing activities and customer engagement initiatives.
  7. Coordinate with factory, procurement, logistics and operations teams to ensure product availability, quality, packaging and delivery requirements are aligned with customer and market expectations.
  8. Support the development of Asian market channels, including Chinese-speaking wholesale, retail and export customers.
  9. Supervise and coordinate internal sales, marketing and customer-facing staff as required.
  10. Monitor competitor activity, market trends, seafood pricing, customer demand and export opportunities.
  11. Establish commercial processes for customer follow-up, sales pipeline management, receivables monitoring and account performance.
  12. Represent the company at trade events, supplier meetings, customer meetings and industry networking opportunities.

Skills and experience required

  1. Five years’ relevant experience in sales management, marketing management, business development, export sales, supply chain management, international trade, wholesale distribution, food distribution or a related commercial management role.
  2. A relevant tertiary qualification in business, marketing, commerce, supply chain management, international trade, management or a related discipline would be advantageous, but is not essential where the candidate has substantial relevant experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement sales and marketing strategies at management level.
  4. Experience managing business-to-business customers, wholesale accounts, distributors or export-market relationships.
  5. Strong commercial understanding of pricing, margins, customer segmentation, revenue growth and market expansion.
  6. Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  7. Ability to work with operational teams, including factory, procurement, logistics, warehousing and customer service functions.
  8. Mandarin Chinese or another major Asian business language would be highly advantageous, given the company’s Asian customer and market development focus.
  9. Experience in seafood, food distribution, perishable products, fast-moving consumer goods, export trade or related industries would be advantageous, but not essential for candidates with strong transferable commercial experience.

Personal attributes

  1. Commercially sharp and results-driven.
  2. Able to operate at senior management level.
  3. Strong strategic planning and execution ability.
  4. Confident dealing with business owners, distributors, suppliers and major customers.
  5. Practical, hands-on and able to work across a growing New Zealand business.
  6. Strong understanding of cross-cultural business communication.
  7. Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving product and supply environment.
