Kenny & Harlow is an Auckland-based boutique bridal studio specialising in fully custom-made wedding gowns. From initial design concepts through to final fittings, we work closely with clients to create garments that fit beautifully and make every bride feel confident on their special day.
About the position
Due to continued business growth and an increasing number of custom bridal projects, we are creating a full-time Patternmaker position to support our expanding production requirements. This role will be responsible for translating design sketches and fabric selections into accurate, well-fitting patterns for bespoke wedding gowns.
Summary of key information
- Nature of employment: Permanent full-time
- Remuneration (gross): $35 to $37 per hour
- Overtime rate: at the rate of normal salary for any time worked in addition to an ordinary work week.
- Minimum guaranteed hours of work: 32 hours per week
- Maximum hours of work: 40 hours per week
- Location of work: Mt Eden, Auckland
Summary of key responsibilities (including but not limited to)
- Confer with the owner and designer of Kenny & Harlow and clients to determine the requirements for custom-made bridal gowns and related garments.
- Interpret design sketches, client requirements, measurements, and garment specifications to develop patterns for custom-made bridal gowns and related garments.
- Draft, develop, modify, and maintain garment patterns to achieve the required fit, style, proportions, and construction requirements for individual clients.
- Translate design concepts into accurate pattern pieces and garment specifications to support sample development, fittings, alterations, and final garment construction.
- Layup and cut materials according to pattern pieces and garment construction requirements.
- Construct toiles and sample garments using industrial sewing machines to assess pattern accuracy, fit, proportions, design details and garment construction.
- Conduct fittings and make pattern adjustments to achieve the desired fit, style, and appearance for individual clients.
- Work closely with the owner and designer of Kenny & Harlow throughout the development and production process to ensure design requirements are accurately reflected in finished garments.
- Prepare and maintain pattern records, measurement specifications, fitting notes, and production instructions.
- Resolve pattern, fitting, and garment construction issues identified during sample development, alterations, and production.
- Assist with continuous improvement of pattern development and production processes to support efficiency, consistency, and quality workmanship.
- Perform other related duties as reasonably required from time to time.
Key requirements
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A Level 4 or higher tertiary qualification in Fashion, Apparel and Fashion Technology, Fashion Design, Garment Construction, or a related discipline.
- Proven hands-on skills in patternmaking, sample garment construction, and garment fitting
- Proven proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines and other relevant equipment
- Ability to interpret design concepts and translate them into technically accurate patterns
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
