Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the General Manager will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the business, including operational leadership, financial performance, staff management, customer experience, strategic planning, and business development.
This is a senior leadership position requiring a hands-on manager who can effectively lead staff, manage business resources, drive operational performance, and contribute to the continued growth and profitability of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic and Business Management
- Develop, implement and monitor business strategies, objectives, policies and operational plans
- Participate in business planning and contribute to the long-term growth and development of the organisation
- Review operational performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction
- Implement systems, procedures and initiatives designed to improve operational efficiency and service delivery
- Assist the Managing Director in achieving organisational goals and business growth targets
Financial Management
- Prepare, monitor and manage operational budgets
- Analyse sales performance, labour costs and business profitability
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and key performance indicators
- Implement cost control measures and revenue improvement initiatives
- Prepare and maintain operational and financial reports for management review
Operational Management
- Direct and coordinate the daily operations of the business
- Ensure efficient utilisation of staff, equipment and business resources
- Monitor workflow and service delivery standards
- Ensure high levels of quality control across all services
- Manage inventory levels, purchasing requirements and supplier relationships
Human Resource Management
- Recruit, train, supervise and performance manage staff
- Develop staff capability through coaching, mentoring and training
- Prepare and manage staff rosters and workforce planning
- Conduct performance reviews and implement performance improvement strategies where required
- Foster a positive, productive and customer-focused workplace culture
Customer Service and Business Development
- Maintain and enhance customer service standards across the business
- Manage and resolve escalated customer issues and complaints
- Develop and implement sales, marketing and promotional initiatives
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue and expand services
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable employment, health and safety, privacy and business legislation
- Implement and maintain workplace health and safety systems
- Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently
- Maintain business records, operational documentation and reporting systems
- Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures
Essential Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- At least three years' relevant senior management experience; or
- A relevant NZQF Level 5 qualification or higher.
