Alderson Poultry Transport Limited is on the lookout for a reliable, motivated Diesel Mechanic to join our Auckland workshop. Reporting to the National Workshop Manager, you’ll keep our fleet, plant, and specialized forklifts running safely and efficiently. We offer a competitive rate of $34–$45/hr, a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week, and the security of a permanent position. Auckland, New Zealand.

Key Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics & Fault Finding: Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components, utilizing advanced scanning tools and diagnostic computers.
  • Dismantling & Overhauls: Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering components, and parts to inspect them for wear and functionality issues.
  • Repairs & Component Replacement: Repair, adjust, and replace worn or defective parts, reassemble engines and mechanical components, and refer to technical service manuals as needed.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Reassemble and test-drive vehicles or equipment after repair to ensure proper performance, safety, and rectification of faults.
  • Scheduled Maintenance: Perform thorough scheduled maintenance services—including oil changes, full lubrications, engine tune-ups, and fluid replenishment—to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution and safety regulations.
  • Inventory Coordination: Liaise with the Parts Interpreter / Foreman to systematically order parts, track workshop jobs, and maintain necessary workshop inventory levels.
  • Breakdown Response: Respond to vehicle breakdown service calls and actively participate in the scheduled on-call roster as required.
  • Health, Safety, & Compliance: Actively promote excellence in workplace health and safety in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act. Ensure consistent use of PPE, follow active SOPs, and report all hazards or incidents within 24 hours.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least two years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above OR A relevant New Zealand Register Level 4 qualification or higher or an overseas qualification;
  • Proven, practical experience working as a Diesel Mechanic on trucks, heavy machinery, plant, or forklifts.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and mechanical repair skills.
  • Thorough understanding of workplace health and safety practices and compliance frameworks.

Preferred / Advantageous:

  • Specific, hands-on experience with specialized three-wheel drive forklifts.
  • Deep industry knowledge of New Zealand transport regulations, machinery standards, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the capability to manage a diverse workload and build relationships with workshop colleagues and managers.
