TMC Trailers is one of NZ's largest heavy transport manufacturers, specialising in manufacturing, repairing, and servicing truck trailers from workshops in Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch.

The Role

We have 2 full-time, permanent Fitter-Welder opportunities at our Christchurch Service Centre. Carrying out multiple repairs, including studying drawings and specifications to determine job requirements, all body, chassis, and undercarriage repairs, LT400 certified repairs, skid plate & drawbar replacements.

A busy and rewarding role where multi-tasking is essential. You will be calm, professional, and highly organised, with an excellent eye for detail and the ability to work independently and follow instructions.

Key tasks

  • Fabricate, assemble, and fit steel and aluminium components to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and ARC welding to a high standard, ensuring structural integrity and quality workmanship.
  • Grind, dress, and finish fabricated components to meet customer and company quality standards.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and measurements accurately.
  • Operate workshop machinery and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct quality checks throughout the fabrication and welding process.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, company policies, and industry standards.

The work hours are from 6.45 am - 3.00 pm (paid to 3.15 pm), Monday – Friday, with a minimum of 40 hours per week. 

To be successful, you will:

  • Have a NZQF level 4 qualification or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Possess relevant engineering experience, with a strong preference given to candidates with a background in Transport Engineering.
  • Be capable of carrying out various engineering repairs, maintaining the highest standards.
  • Be able to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Be hard-working & reliable
