HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLER (HDD OPERATOR)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Driller (HDD Operator) to join our growing directional drilling team based in Christchurch. This is a hands-on role requiring an experienced operator who can safely and efficiently operate HDD equipment while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, and professionalism. The successful applicant will occasionally travel throughout the South Island.


Key Responsibilities

- Safely and efficiently operate HDD equipment.

- Accurately locate and track drill heads throughout drilling operations.

- Review utility plans, service plans, and construction drawings before commencing work.

- Ensure compliance with local council requirements, permits, industry standards, and client
specifications.

- Complete daily pre-start inspections and routine maintenance of drilling equipment.

- Perform basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting.

- Maintain accurate records and documentation.

- Follow all Health & Safety procedures and contribute to a safe workplace.

Skills & Experience Required

- Minimum 1 year HDD operating experience.

- Proven HDD locating experience.

- Knowledge of council requirements, regulations and permitting.

- Mechanical maintenance experience.

- Current Class 1 Driver Licence; Class 2 or 4 advantageous.

- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

What We Offer

- Competitive hourly rate of $36.00–$39.00.

- Guaranteed 40 hours per week with opportunities up to 48 hours.

Must be physically fit, reliable, willing to travel away from Christchurch when required, and have the legal right to work in New Zealand or be eligible to obtain a work visa.

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand (with occasional travel throughout the South Island)
Hours: 40–48 hours per week
Pay: NZD $36.00–$39.00 per hour
