We are seeking an experienced Precision Agriculture  Systems Technician for a six month fixed term project to establish practical,efficient precision farming systems  across our arable farm in Rakaia, Mid Canterbury. The role aims to deliver well-documented,reliable, and sustainable systems that can be confidently managed and supported by our existing team after project completion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review existing precision agriculture systems,  hardware, software, and operational processes.
  • Develop and establish practical management zones using available  spatial, yield, and  agronomic data.
  • Analyse  yield maps and production data to assist in establishing long-term precision farming systems.
  • Create, test, validate, and  implement variable rate application maps for  fertiliser, seed, crop protection products, and spotspraying.
  • Configure, optimise, and standardise GPS guidance systems, RTK correction networks, displays, receivers, and associated hardware.
  • Configure and test task controllers, rate controllers, and ISOBUS- compatible equipment across the farm fleet.
  • Establish standard operating procedures for precision agriculture  equipment and data management.
  • Develop consistent processes for collecting, transferring, storing, and managing precision farming data. 
  • Assist in implementing precision farming technologies throughout field operations.
  • Train farm managers and macinery operators in the correct operation of precision agriculture equipment and software.
  • Prepare practical user guides and technical documentation for ongoing staff use.
  • Complete a comprehensive project handover, including documentation, system settings, operating procedures, and staff training records.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualification  in precision agriculture.
  • Experience with platforms such as FendtONEOffboard, Trimble AgSoftware, AgLeaderSMS,  or similar.
  • Experience with GIS software such as QGIS or ARCgis.
  • Experience operating drones or working with satellite imagery.
  • Experience with Task Maps.
  • Understanding of machine calibration and equipment maintenance.
